Taking inventory of your assets is a good place to start. Your assets may include your investments, retirement savings, insurance policies, and real estate or business interests.
Then ask yourself these questions:
- Who do you want to inherit your assets?
- Who do you want to name as guardians for your minor children?
- Who do you want to handle your financial affairs if you are unable?
- Who do you want to make medical decisions on your behalf if you are unable to make them for yourself?
